Imaging Of Drug-Induced Musculoskeletal Disorders

Outline

Gain insights into the complex interplay between bones, joints and soft tissues in this focused session. We will explore real-life clinical cases, complete with diagnostic imaging to deepen your understanding of musculoskeletal conditions and highlight diagnostic imaging considerations.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this session, learners will be able to:

• Identify commonly encountered drugs in clinical practice and describe their effects on bones, joints, and soft tissues, including typical clinical presentations.

• Interpret imaging findings and discuss the advantages, disadvantages, and limitations of diagnostic imaging modalities, specifically X-Ray and MRI, in musculoskeletal assessments.

• Discuss the mechanisms of action and clinical implications of specific drug classes such as steroids, bisphosphonates, anti-epileptics, fluoroquinolone antibiotics (e.g., ciprofloxacin), and statins.

Speakers


Inger Roug
Profile Picture Inger Roug is a doctor of chiropractic graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic, Iowa, USA in 1989. She subsequently earned her diplomate of the American Chiropractic College of Radiology from Logan University College of Chiropractic, Missouri, USA. Inger has lectured at three chiropractic universities in North America from 1999-2014 and is currently a chiropractic radiologist and senior lecturer at AECC-UC since 2015. Inger Roug has authored several peer-reviewed research and case report articles in chiropractic and biomedical literature. In addition to classroom teaching, Inger worked from 2003-2014 for two MR Imaging centres in the Atlanta, Georgia, USA area, where her main case loads were MRI and CT imaging of the spine and extremities. Inger is a Fellow of the Royal College of Chiropractors and Higher Education Academy. In 2018 she earned her Pg.Cert in Medical Ultrasound from Bournemouth University
